Privacy Policy
Effective date: March 9, 2026
Copperline Labs LLC ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Beacon Safe mobile application ("Beacon"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app and services.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following information to provide our safety check-in service:
- Account information: Your email address, used for account creation and service notifications.
- Phone number: Used for SMS-based safety alerts and account verification.
- Emergency contact information: Names, phone numbers, and email addresses of contacts you designate to receive safety alerts.
- Check-in data: Timer durations, check-in status, and timestamps related to your safety sessions.
- Subscription information: Your subscription tier and purchase status, managed through Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- Push notification tokens: When you enable push notifications, we collect your device's push notification token through our push notification provider. This token allows us to send you real-time alerts about your check-in status, contact responses, and timer reminders. Push tokens are stored securely in your user profile on our servers and are automatically deleted when you disable notifications or delete your account.
- IP addresses: When emergency contacts interact with alert action links, we collect IP addresses for rate limiting and security purposes. IP addresses are not linked to user accounts and are retained for 30 days.
- Device contacts: When you choose to import an emergency contact from your phone, we access your device address book to display contacts for selection. We do not upload, store, or transmit your full address book — only the specific contact information you select is saved.
Information About Your Emergency Contacts
When you add emergency contacts to Beacon, we collect their name, phone number, and/or email address as provided by you. This information is used solely to deliver safety alerts on your behalf when you miss a check-in. Your contacts' information is shared with our communication providers only as needed to deliver these alerts. Emergency contacts who receive SMS alerts can opt out at any time by replying STOP. We encourage you to inform your contacts that they may receive safety alerts from Beacon Safe.
2. How We Use Your Information
Your information is used exclusively to provide and improve our safety check-in service:
- Sending safety alert notifications to your designated emergency contacts when a check-in timer expires.
- Delivering alerts via SMS, email, and voice calls based on your subscription tier and preferences.
- Managing your account and processing subscription changes.
- Sending you service-related communications (e.g., password resets, critical updates).
- Improving app reliability and performance through anonymized usage analytics.
- Activity reports: We generate and email formatted activity reports at your request, containing your check-in history and alert data.
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate Beacon:
- Cloud infrastructure provider: Database hosting and user authentication. Data is stored on secure, encrypted servers.
- Twilio: SMS messaging and voice call delivery for safety alerts. Alert messages are sent from a Copperline Labs toll-free phone number via Twilio's messaging platform. Message frequency depends on your check-in timer settings and alert escalation rules (typically 1–5 messages per alert event). Message and data rates may apply. We do not share or sell mobile phone numbers, SMS opt-in data, or text messaging originator consent with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
- Email delivery provider: Email delivery for safety alert notifications.
- Subscription management provider: In-app purchase and subscription management. Subscription data is processed through Apple and Google's payment systems.
- Push notification provider: Processes your device's push notification token to route notifications to your device. This provider does not receive your personal information beyond the device token.
Each of these services has their own privacy policies governing their use of data. We only share the minimum information necessary for each service to perform its function.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We do not share or sell mobile phone numbers, SMS opt-in data, or text messaging originator consent with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. The above excludes text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
We share data only as described in Section 3 above (solely for service delivery purposes), or when required by law (e.g., in response to a valid legal process such as a subpoena or court order).
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, secure authentication protocols, and access controls. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Check-in data is retained for 90 days for Free tier users. Plus subscribers' check-in data is retained for the duration of their active subscription. Upon cancellation or downgrade, historical data beyond 90 days will be deleted within 30 days.
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time through the app settings. Upon account deletion, we will remove your personal information from our systems within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data.
- Right to deletion: Request deletion of your personal data.
- Right to portability: Request your data in a portable format.
- Right to opt out: Opt out of non-essential data processing.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond to your request within 30 days.
8. Children's Privacy
Beacon is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will promptly delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice in the app or sending you an email. Your continued use of Beacon after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
